Lucky me (and you if you are reading this): I seem to have found the problem. We all know the UAC of windows vista. Some of us hate it, some of us don't care. I was one of those who didn't really care, though because it's quite annoying to press four buttons everytime you are doing something, I switched it off. Now normally one would think that everything now starts in administrator mode (and it should). But apparantly, there's still a difference... It seems that my games aren't run in administrator mode and that's why there's the mouse lag.
If you just go to the properties of the *.exe of you game and switch on "Run as administrator" in the "Compatibility" tab, then everything works as smooth as ever! Hooray!
If you have this problem and UAC is on with you (or you don't have a clue what UAC for vista is) then just try running the game as administrator in the same fashion I just explained above.
Enjoy fragging pixels again!
worked great thx
ReplyDeleteNice to hear it helped you :-)
ReplyDeletei have the same exact problem but wen i set the hl.exe to run as administraor counter strike 1.6 says the game is currently unavailable please try at another time. ive tried restarting my computer and it still wont work.
ReplyDeletetry running steam.exe as administrator, then start counterstrike from there, should do the trick.
ReplyDeleteIf that didn't do the trik:aAlso make sure you have your propriery mouse driver running as admin.. (might be trickier)
Had the same issue in Windows 7 and this fixed the problem. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteturning of UAC has solved 9 out of 10 issues I've had with vista since migrating from XP
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear it helped most of your problems then!
ReplyDeleteFor god sake, man, you've saved me a lot of nerves! Thanks a lot! Who would've thought about it!
ReplyDeleteI have another good solution --> run windows 7 =)
ReplyDeleteDidnt work for me.. i run wow.exe but the mouse still stops working(lags)! :(
ReplyDeleteI am running games on administrator, mouse still hangs at wierd intervals, game is running but just the mouse still freezes.
ReplyDeleteUsing Logitech MX, Vista was reinstalled recently and logitech driver installed as per most comments about hanging mouse.
Not sure what to do except maybe get some C4 and applying to my PC, maybe that will make my frustration go away.. Please help.
I will monitor this blogg for a bit to see if you reply.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteIf my logic from the original post applies. Then you should try and find the *.exe of your mouse driver manager. (you know the application you use to assign functions to your mouse buttons) And make sure that that *.exe is also run as administrator.
Then if both your games and the manager are run as administrator, I think your lag should dissapear. If not, I'm afraid you might have some totally other problem.
Thank you i will look for that *.exe file and try it tonight.
ReplyDeleteTHank again
Finally! after hours of headaches THIS finally worked, even on windows XP... Thanks a ton
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Thanks, man! My system was having the same problem and your solution fixed it for me. This is great! :)
ReplyDeleteYou sir, are an angel. Thanks so much for this! Now, If I only could solve my weird lag spike problems.... If you think you have an idea, please reply! : )
ReplyDeleteEdit to my previous post: It seems that this solution only delays the mouse lag. It was fine for 45 mins or so, but then it started happening again. It is fixed temporarily if I turn off my wireless mouse and turn it back on, but I dont know what to do. Please help! P.S: I have a Windows 7 computer with a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000.
ReplyDeleteworked great thx again
